HISTORY: Satins were a mjor mutation which ocurred in America in the rabbitry of Walter Huey of Indiana. The first satin mutatuion occured in 1954 and Mr Huey sent these mutations to Harvard University where genetisists determined that this mutation was a simple recessive gene for shine and texture of the coat. Satins as a breed were first recognised by American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) in 1956, with eight colour varieties being accepted.
